Bellew Storm Water Pump Station Upgrade

The Bellew Storm Water Pump Station Upgrade project was a design-build between Syblon Reid and Coleman Engineering to upgrade the existing pump station for the City of Milpitas.

The existing pump station had three 500 HP diesel-driven vertical turbine pumps that did not conform to current air quality standards.

The scope entailed a complete overhaul of the pump station so the City would be in compliance with air quality standards.

The project included:

  • Replacing two of the three diesel motors with electrical drives,
  • Installing a new 500 HP standby generator, transformer, switchgear, automatic transfer switching (ATS), and variable-frequency drives (VFDs),
  • Installing a new pump station site electrical system,
  • Modification of the intake screens on the three suction bells on the vertival turbine pumps, and
  • Critical communication with PG&E during power switch-over to avoid shutdown of power to local technology firms.
